When you install mIRC you will have an option to connect to a IRC server. Click on the Thunderbolt Icon on the far upper-left. You will have an option to put a handle (nickname) in that window.
This is what your screen should look like:
Pick a server you wish to join. after you pick one, Click on "connect". When you Connect to a server, a window should pop up that looks like this:
You can double-click on a channel that is on here. You can also go to other channels you wish. Enter the name of the channel you wish to create or go to in the text box at the top. Note: All channels start with #. (Ex: #cool or #chat)
When you join a channel, it should look like this:
Here are some commands to get you started. Type these while you are in a chat room.
To join a channel manually, type:
/join x (replace x with a
channel name).
To message a person privately type:
/msg x (replace x with the nickname
of the person you want to chat).
To quit a channel type:
/part
You can also close the window, its just another option.
To get extensive help in mIRC type:
/help
You can also type in specific topics if you wish.
Ex:
/help timer
/help join
