The Mirtolin (Kazoo)

The Mirtolin, which just so happens to be a 'Kazoo', is an odd, yet familiar instrument. Actually any instrument in which you can hum against a membrane can be classified as a Mirtolin. A common one can be made by putting a sheet of paper to a comb and humming against it. A kazoo will occasionaly pop up in Jazz music. Believe it or not, the kazoo has been heard in concert. Examples include pieces with 100 kazoos for audience participation. Another piece that included Mirtolin's is Tschiacovky's "Dance of the Mirtolin's" from the Nutcracker. However, the piece is now more commonly known as the "Reed-pipe Dance".
