Domenico Scarlatti
(1685 - 1757)
Scarlatti was the sixth son of composer Alessandro Scarlatti. He wrote 555 harpsichord
sonatas. They show that he was one of the most original innovators of harmony in the 18th century.
Some dance rhythms
combined with lively, surprising harmonic turns, make for very uplifting
listening. Others are more quiet in mood. Scarlatti also wrote in
many other genres (operas, cantatas, church music).
