Universities are typically large schools with thousands of students and a wide variety of programs. One of the important differences between a university and other types of schools is that a university grants degrees as well as certificates and diplomas. Universities are schools where you receive a Batchelor's degree for completing a program and can continue in your
studies to receive a Masters or a Doctorate degree. Most universities divide up their programs into groups called faculties, for example most universities have Faculty of Science and a Faculty of Arts.
Most medical and law schools are universities or parts of universities. In many cases, you are required to take up to three years of a program in another faculty before you can even apply to a university's law or medicine program.
