Travis, 17, of Lumberton, NC, has been studying the violin for 12 years under Lynda Rolfes. He played in the first violin sections of the Junior High All-State Orchestra of North Carolina in 1995 and the Senior High All-State Symphony Orchestra in 1996 and 1997. Travis also played in the first-violin section of the NC Honors All-State Orchestra in Winston-Salem in November of 1996. While at All-State, Travis competed for and won the 1997 NC Honors All-State Scholarship to ~Brevard Music Center. Travis is active in many music-related activities. He plays in the first-violin section of the Florence Symphony Orchestra, and last year played a solo with the symphony. He serves as the concert-master of the Robeson County Youth Orchestra and his school orchestra. In the summers of 1995 and 1996, he attended Cannon Music Camp at Appalachian State University, playing as assistant concertmaster his second year. Travis has played the violin in the orchestra for numerous theatrical productions, and frequently plays at Trinity Episcopal Church in Lumberton. He also performs as a contract player with a string quartet.

In addition to the violin, he participates in a singing/dancing group known as the Broadway Babies. He has performed in many theatrical productions at the Carolina Civic Center in downtown Lumberton. Travis is an active member of a Boy Scout Troop, and is currently earning the Eagle Rank. At Lumberton Senior High School, he is a member of the tennis team, the French Club, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the Art Club, and the Vice-President of the School Improvement Team.
