| Explanation: |
Your ears have
two purposes, hearing, their main function, and
balance, which is generally considered to be a
secondary function. Inside your inner ear there
is a structuree called the semicircular canals
which includes a small coiled up sub-organ.
Inside this organ are liquids. On the sides of
the organ are many very small hair-like
structures that move around as the liquid flows.
When you spin the liquid inside also spins. The
difference is that when you stop, the liquid
continues to spin for a while. Dizziness is the
result of the nerves in your ear giving you
different messages to your eyes. These
contradictory messages confuse your brain. So
when you close your eyes you can't see what way
is straight, you have to rely on your balance.
The swirling liquid in your ears cannot work out
which way is straight on, thus you walk in a
curved line, or a spiral! |
