Every bike needs to be washed every 2-3 months. Your bike should also be washed after especially dirty rides (you mountain bikers!) Washing your bike is easy and does not take that much time, so there is no excuse to not have a clean shiny bike!
WHAT YOU NEED:
A dish washing brush
A bottle brush
A toothbrush
Car shampoo
Spray lube
Sponge
Towel
- Mix the car shampoo (or dish washing liquid) with half a bucket of warm water. Using a sponge wash down the entire bike.
- Give the bike a second wash. This will allow you to find the spots where the dirt is especially tough and didn't come off in the first wash. Use the bottle brush to remove dirt from the tight places the sponge couldn't fit.
- If you come across areas where there is a film of oil, using a toothbrush use degreaser to break down the oil.
- Rinse off your bike.
- Dry the bike. Then squirt spray lube over gears and other areas where water might hurt the mechanism.
