The Mars Navigator CD-ROM

Before you navigate around the planet, you will need to learn about the terrain. We recommend the Mars Navigator CD-ROM listed below which we reviewed this summer. Another possibility would be to participate in the Red Rover project listed on our link page.

When you finish, you may want to visit the Geography Sphere to get your Mars drivers license.

NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory has made a major effort to involve educators and students in the excitement surrounding Mars Pathfinder's mission.

One of the most important tools in that outreach is the Mars Navigator CD-ROM, an interactive program which uses animations and text to provide background on both the Mars Pathfinder and Mars Global Surveyor.

One of the activities requires students to maneuver the rover around the Martian surface. The CD-ROM's developer, Professor Kurt Gramoll, worked with aerospace engineering students to help design the program which is being distributed by
Dr. Kurt Gramoll.

Animations used to demonstrate the July 4th, 1997 landing of the Pathfinder were created by Engineered Multimedia Inc. "As an aerospace engineer, I take great satisfaction in knowing that the work we do here at Engineered Multimedia Inc. is positively affecting students," said Rob Abbanat, president of Engineered Multimedia Inc.

Dr. Kurt Gramoll will distribute the CD at $12 a copy (includes handling and shipping). People who are interested should send a check to
