Research and Development Sphere

Perhaps the most practical of all of the divisions of the Research and Development sphere is the Materials Processing Center. This division is responsible for mining materials and converting them to the forms for practical use.

Once a mineral deposit has been identified by the Department of Geology, the Materials Processing Center can determine whether or not that deposit can be converted into usable forms. The project they are working on right now is how to convert recently discovered feldspar deposits into glass. Obviously, the colony would have uses for glass. It could make glass one less thing to have to transport from earth. As you can see, the Materials Processing Center is very important and promises to be an integral part of how the colony will grow.
