Water Works

This is Koinae's Water Procurement Center. Here, frozen water under the Martian surface is heated and transported throughout Koinae.

Approximately 10 meters below the surface of Mars lies a vast resource of water in the form of permafrost. Using microwaves (the form of energy, not the oven), the permafrost is melted into liquid water, which is then pumped up to two large storage tanks here, in the Operations Sphere. In one tank, the water is cooled and pumped throughout the colony as cold water. The water in the other tank is heated and pumped as (obviously) hot water.

Every sphere in Koinae has running water, although some use it more than others. The Agricultural Sphere uses the most water, in keeping fresh water in the fish tanks and in the hydroponic gardens. The Habitat Sphere uses a lot of water when the colonists shower in the Personal Hygiene Facility. The other spheres have restroom facilities, but use a minimum of the colony's water supply.
