Where does the colony's energy come from?

The power of Koinae comes from several sources. At first they thought of using nuclear power, but with the limited number of people, they figured that there would not be enough technicians to keep it safe. That's not to mention the fact that they would have a hard time transporting the materials for a nuclear power plant to Mars. So, they have opted for a different approach.

Part of their power comes from a satellite in space that utilizes solar power. This satellite was built on Earth, and then launched into Mars' orbit, much like the Viking and Pathfinder landers of the twentieth century. The rest of their power comes from windmills set up around the planet to utilize the energy in dust storms. They don't use all of the energy that they have, so they save a lot of it for emergency situations. Power is very important to the Koinaeins, because it lets them run their computers, monitor their status, and keep their environmental controls working. Because of this, more power satellites are planned to be launched soon.
