The Martian land rover is the vehicle that the colonists use
when going out into the Martian terrain. This vehicle is modeled
somewhat after the Sojourner probe sent to Mars on
NASA's Pathfinder in 1997. It has six
wheels that can move independently of the others. This allows the
rover to negociate all of the rocks on Mars. It runs only on
electricity, and has solar panels that it can gather energy with.
When it is dark or the panels are not functioning, it can run on its
reserve batteries.
The rover is equipped with communications equipment to send its
findings to Earth. It also carries equipment for analyzing the rocks
of Mars. It sends this information back to the
Department of Geology. If you haven't
already, try visiting the Department of Martian
Vehicles, and get your Martian driver's license. If you'd like,
you can take a ride out to the Carl Sagan
Memorial Station.
