Mars Pathfinder was a probe
launched by NASA, the agency responsible for American space
exploration. The purpose of the pathfinder probe was to provide Earth
with detailed analysis of the Martian soil, as well as the provide
large, panoramic photographs of the landing site.
Pathfinder still sends photos to Koinae. One feature that is
important in these photos is a mountain on the horizon. By studying
this mountain, the meteorologists can
determine the visibility of the atmosphere. This is very important,
since visibility is related to how
terraforming is affecting the
planet. Since one of the functions of Pathfinder was originally to
send soil analysis to Earth, the
Koinaen scientists modified
Pathfinder to send back the analysis from multiple
Sojourner-like probes. By doing this, they
hope to find new minerals deposits and to
find evidence of previous life on
Mars.
