When the two objects collide, they exert forces on each other along the line joining their centres. It is theses forces which change the momenta of the two objects. This simulation illustrates the fact that energy is conserved in any collision in an isolated system. In this simulation the two balls collide completely elastic. Kinetic energy is conserved during the collisions.
