Manned Mission to Mars

The Viking Mars Lander, the first object to sucsessfully land on MarsAs we plan on sending a manned mission to Mars, we try to overcome the costs of such an ambitious goal. To try to use an Apollo-type mission would cost several hundred billion dollars, and would take decades to plan. Because much of this money is to launch fuel which is needed to return to Earth, a lot of money could be saved by making fuel on Mars.

The approach of making a lot of the needed supplies on Mars is called "Live off the Land." Using this approach, The First Manned Mission to Mars could be made sooner, cheaper, and it could accomplish more. By testing this technique on a manned mission, we will develop the technologies needed to secure The Future of Humans on Mars.
