"Fire district to offer CO detectors"
Hope Valley -- Residents will get a chance at a "second look" this Sunday at the Hope Valley-Wyoming Fire Districts open house.
The open house will be held at the Hope Valley station from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Hope Valley-Wyoming Fire District agreed to participate in a special carbon monoxide detector program, sponsored by the CLMB foundation located in Maine, and will be giving more information out to interested people.
With many false alarms generated by carbon monoxide detectors, this program allows homeowners and or occupants to borrow detectors from the fire district, and determine if a carbon monoxide threat is real, or just a false alarm
The CLMB Foundation is non-profit organization dedicated to the prevention of injury or death from carbon monoxide poisoning.
Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless and deadly gas. Because you cant see, taste or smell it, carbon monoxide can kill you before you know its there.
Everyone is at risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. Experts believe, however, that individuals with greater oxygen requirements such as unborn babies, infants, children, senior citizens and people with cardiovascular problems are at a greater risk.
Carbon monoxide is the leading cause of poisoning deaths in America and is responsible for half of all poisoning fatalities, according to the Center for Disease Control.
