Remove the guestbook and you will have a better site. What does it add other than an opportunity for people to make insipid or inappropriate comments? It's not a worthwhile feature.

Enjoyed reading the story of Mary Starke Harper..a very moving and emotional interview. I am a Professor of Social Work at Wayne State University (Detroit, Michigan) and am a friend of Dr. Mary Harper. She is well remembered and respected by friends and colleagues in Detroit and a local senior citizen center, "The Williams" center is named in honor of her first cousin. Dr. Harper has been a close friend of my writing partner, Dr. Lucille Davis, RN, PhD for many years. I am teaching a course (at Eastern Michigan University) entitled, Ethnicity and Gender Issues Among the Aged" and the resources from this site and those found on the site relative to the Tuskegee Syphilis Study have been invaluable for me and my students. The address to the latter site is http://www.msu.edu/course/hm/546/tuskegee.htm or the National Center for Bioethics housed at Tuskegee University (wysiwyg://61/http://www.tubioethics.org/ Keep posting informative interviews on this site. Found this site while surfing for possible interest in a short fiction film that I have just finished writing, directing and producing. My film deals with the issue of Senior Placement. The intended audience is the family unit newly introduced to the problem. The 'fiction' element allows a distance not available in a case history. This approach validated by being currently selected as an official selection at the Silver Images Festival in Chicago, April 30 - May 11, 2001. Looking for a distributor, and/or individual sales. Not a profit making venture, just need to recoup expenses before moving on to longer project. Film is 19 min. long, color, VHS available.

We need to understand the magic of life. Life is a spiritual journey in which we use up our bodies so we can grow a soul. As our bodies age, our soul get younger. As our bodies get weaker, our souls get stronger. As our bodies loose sync with this world…our souls get closer to heaven.
Next time, when you see a person of advanced age, think again because you might be seeing an angel.

Fasinating and usefull stuff here. I am investigating the topic of creativity in elders (70 and over). For example MichaelAngelo complete the "last judgement" when he was 67, and was made chief architect for the Dome of St. Peter's Basilica at age 72. I am looking for similar examples of great achievement at old age. Please send comments to hedrume@omega23.com (http://www.omega23.com/)

This is a great web site. I am a doctoral student in public health at Univ. of So. Calif and at George Washington Univ. studying public health and preventive medicine. With my studies on health education and health promotion this is a great site, for all ages to learn about aging. It is all too often in our western society that with media, perceptions of aing is a bad thing. Sure if we do not take care of ourselves we may be more susceptable to a chronic disease or a disability, but with education the risks can be lowered, and provide for a healthier aged individual. Experience in life is important and we can all learn from it, those who have lived for many years can tell you so much, so much mroe than what may be written in any book. Finally, we all will get "old" that is not bad, actually it is a good thing, because the only other option is death.

I am currently researching age discrimination and your web site has given me hope that the younger generations will come to value older people and to realise
that they con contribute effectively to society in many, many ways. The web site will hopefully dismiss rather than enhance the sterotypes society holds of old people.

Ceramics gives people of all ages a common interest to relax and have fun. I've become friends with many seniors and young people as a ceramics teacher. If we had more people doing creative things like ceramics we'd have less idle hands finding trouble.

another perspective on how our organization may design our web page geared toward
intergenerational issues.

Great topic. As a leading edge baby boomer heading for my
golden years it was refreshing to see that young people
are concerned about aging and helping people make the most
of their later years. Our elderly citizens are a valuable
resource often neglected and forgotten.

great idea, great job, more things like this need to be done so kids with these talants can express them,so much has been made of sporting talants, and not enough on a lot of other skills that kids have to show with pride.kids are great! if given a chance to show there talants in a constructive and supervised way. we need more and different hero,s than sports figures.

THANK YOU for a tremendous resource for students and educators. Thank you New York State Office on Aging for listing LinkAge 2000 as the "most original new link." As President-Elect of the State Society on Aging of New York, I will be sure to bring this information to the Executive Board. The Education Committee, in conjunction with NYSOFA, has been dedicated to infusing gerontology education in New York State Schools. Keep up the good work!!

Jeff, you and your friends have done a great job. Since last you sat in my class and tried to absorb the universal aspects of mathematics, I never thought about how old I'm getting and how that may or may not have an impact on students like yourself. I'm proud of your achievement and wish you the best.
