The reason why we decided to do this web page on animals that impact the environment was because we realised from our classroom studies that some animals can have a negative affect on the environment. We were interested to find out what solutions were being developed to solve these problems. At first we only wanted to focus on native animals, but this was too narrow a field. We soon realised that some native animals were introduced to different habitats as is the case of koalas on Kangaroo Island. When we considered prairie dogs in U.S.A. there was only limited information and the farmers had different view points to the conservationsits. Also, it was difficult to share information with different students in other countries as they weren't very responisive to our requests. So we ended up with the koalas on Kangaroo Island, harp seals in Canada,the crown of thorn starfish on the Great Barrier Reef and the European carp in both Australia and America.
