What do the symbols mean?

The Egyptian number system was based on 10 like ours, but there were no specific symbols for the numbers 1 through 9. Strokes were used until 10, then the 10 symbol, then more strokes... e.g.

Numbers

Number Hieroglyph Represents
1 1 stroke
10 10 cattle hobble
100 100 coil of rope
1 000 1000 lotus plant
10 000 10 000 finger
100 000 100 000 tadpole
1 000 000 1 000 000 god holding up sky
