3400 B.C.E. Egypt Egyptians adopted a symbol for the number 10, still usingten strokes 1 — 12 could be represented by 1 ten and 2 ones.
3100 Near East Cuneiform writing (Mesopotamia): wedge-shaped characters, recorded epics
2800 Egypt Papyrus is made into writing material. 
 
2772 Egypt 365 day calendar
2300- 2000 India "Cultural Exchange" between Indus Valley civilization and Mesopotamia
2200 Greece Indo-Europeans speak early forms of Greek
2000- 1600 Near East Ancestor to Hebrew introduced to Sumerians after being conquered by Amorites. 
1800 Near East Old Babylonians use multiplication, division, square roots, etc. System is based on 12 & 6 (duodecimal) to measure time. We still use this system for minutes and hours.
1792- 1750 Near East Hammurabi reigns. He made great efforts to rule his kingdom effectively and care for his people.
1763 Near East Hammurabi writes the Code of Laws. It had 282 rules, including "an eye for an eye". It was one of the first codes of law.
1600 Greece Greek language evolves
1550 India Writing disappears for a time (because the Indus Valley civilization is destroyed).
1400 Near East Cuneiform writing now represents syllables instead of things or ideas. Fewer and simpler characters, making writing easier.
1050 Greece Greek alphabet evolves from Phoenician symbols.
800- 500 Greece Archaic period - development of literature, arts, politics, philosophy, science.
628- 678 Near East Ashurbanipal rules Assyria, develops library. Finishes with 22 000 clay tablets.
600 Rome Greeks form basis of Roman Alphabet, religious ideas, art, mythology.
586 Near East Book of Ezekiel written
585 Greece Miletus is founding city of philosophy
551 China ConfuciusBirth of Confucius. Dies in 479.
525 Greece Greek Drama is formed.
521 Near East Darius I, emporer of Persia, creates first postal system.
485 Greece Grek intellectual revolution
484 Greece Herodotus (Father of History) is born. Wrote 9-book history of the Greco-Persian war and a book about Egypt. Dies in 420 B.C.E.
481 China Period of the Hundred Schools of Thought -- schools of political philosophy, Confucianism, Taoism, Mohism, Legalism.
448 Greece Aristophanes (comedy writer) is born.
400 India Earliest Sanskrit Grammar (Panini's Sutra) is written.
384 Greece Aristotle's birth. Dies in 322 B.C.E.Aristotle
269 Rome Coin system established.
124 China Founding of Imperial University
