Narrow down your topic so that it won't overwhelm you. Try to sum up your objective in one sentence.

Research your topic. Some good places to try are:

your textbook
your school library
your public library
various encyclopedias, including CD-ROMS
magazines and newspapers you have around the house
the Internet
people in the field
businesses — ask people for interviews or pamphlets. More often than not, they're happy to help.

Take notes. Always write them in your own words to avoid plagiarism . Make sure to write down all necessary source information for later documentation, including:

title
author
date
publisher
place
type of media
URL if Internet resource
pages used
length of videocassette
