Quantum Learning

"Let's see several studying pillars in the age of early of a normal and healthy

child. The chance of being that this child is really resembled with you were in the past.

When you celebrate your very first birthday, maybe you've already learned how to walk --- is

a complicated process both physically and in a mental manner that was almost impossible to

be explained with words or was taught without being demonstrated. Even so, You could do it

although repeatedly fell and stumbled, and you will never feel fail when you're stumbled.

Why? I was convinced as an adult, You can remember some cases when you surrendered studied

something new after failing once or twice. So, why you tried again and again when you were

learning to walk? The answer was, when you learned to walk, you didn't know the concept of

failure. To help, your parents convinced you that you could do it if you keep trying and

they always accompanied you. Each successes was ended with pleasure and applause, that

pumped yourself to gain more success."

The text above is a quotation from the book of Quantum Learning by Bobbi DePorter and Mike Hernacki. That quotation can be a proof that very important for school to apply a pleasing learning system.

Canfield's Research

In the year of 1982, Jack Canfield, an expert in self-confidence problem, reported results of research that inside it was reported one hundred childrens were indicated by a researcher for a day. Task of the researcher was to record how many positive and negative comments that was received by a child in a day. Canfield found that each child in general accepted 460 negative or critical comments and only 75 positive or supportive comments. So, the negative comments are six times more compared with the positive comments. This continuous negative feedback was very dangerous.

After several years of study, the standstill of study which actually will happen, and childrens covered their studying experience in a manner that they didn't realise. When graduating from the elementary school, the word "STUDY" itself could personally make a student feel stern. The research that was carried out by Canfield is increasingly reinforced that studying pleasingly is very important to be applied in the school.

How to make the studying process becomes fun?

1. Apply the Global Learning concept

This Global Learning concept was written in the Quantum Learning book that means an effective and natural method for human-kind to study that the brain of a child through to the age of six or seven years were like the sponge, to absorb various facts, the physical characteristics, and the complexity of the chaotic language by means of that was fun.
For example, A child who tried to analyse his new toy by froping it, inserting it to his/her mouth, turning it to all directions, etc.

2. Whole Brain

"Whole Brain" was another studying method that was very effective if the students were stimulated to use all of his brain capacity.
For example that was written by Katz and Rubin in their book, "Keep Your Brain Alive", that's if we only used the eyes when meeting someone, small our possibility could remember his name in the long period. Otherwise, if we used all senses, we'll have more associations (link). For example, diminished hair, middle aged, wore glasses, the hands as being felt humid cloth, clothes were somewhat smells heady, etc. That could make us able to remember the name easily in a long period.

3. Increase in the Studying Style

Before increasing the studying style of each student, we have to know the students' style.
Audio, Visual, or Kinesthetic? If we have learned the studying style that was owned by a teacher, it will be much easier to develop their potential or intelligence. Because in essence, there's no stupid student. Moreover according to Professor Howard Gardner in one of his researches said that there are at least 9 intelligences that were owned by a student. This gave chances to each human-kind to develop each kind of intelligence that was owner by him/her. That 9 intelligences were Spiritual Intelligence, Linguistic, Logical-Mathematics, Visual-Spatial, Kinesthetic-Physical, Musical, Interpersonal, Intrapersonal, and Natural.

4. Meaningful Study

Each student have to know the advantages from the lesson that was received in the school. Because, that could make the student more motivated to study.

5. Use the Best Teaching Technique

Teacher in the future will no longer ought to be assigned to give informations to the student, but also gave the motivation to the student in order to look for information outside the school. Therefore, teaching in the future will precede how to teach, not what to be taught.

6. Change the Assessment System

One of the main points in the school improvement that was taken from the "The Learning Revolution" book" by Gordon Dryden and Dr. Jeannette Vos was the exam written with the pencil and paper is just only to test someone's capacity in each subject, except in Math or handwriting. Therefore, Jeanette Vos suggested the assessment system during the age to 21 that's 50% comes from self-assessment, 30% comes from the friends' assessment, and 20% comes from the assessment of the teacher.
That system was suggested by Vos and could alleviate the student's burden in getting results, so that the student would have more fun, and wasn't pressed because of studying.
