HEART DISEASES
Coronary heart the leading cause of death in most developed countries. It is the blockage of the coronary artery by deposited fats. This reduces the supply of blood to the heart, which then later leads to heart failure. The nicotine and carbon monoxide from cigarette smoke make the blood clot and this result’s in blocking the coronary arteries which are already partly blocked by fat deposits. Carbon monoxide increases the rate at which the fatty substances are deposited in the arteries.
OTHER DISEASES:
More than 90% of the people suffering from leg amputations are cigarette smokers. Strokes due to arterial diseases commonly occur in smokers. Cancer in the bladder, ulcers in the stomach and duodenum, gum diseases, tooth decay and tuberculosis all are most frequently suffered by smokers. Babies born to women who smoke during the pregnancy are smaller than average. In smokers there is twice the frequency of miscarriages, 50% higher still birth and a 26% higher death rate of babies.
