What can you do to have a healthy lifestyle?
A Healthy Life Above All
Getting older puts health and life in a completely different light. Staying health is our most important job, because we only get one chance. There are many parts of being healthy; one without the other will collapse the entire pyramid.
4 Steps for leading a HEALTHY life:
-
Step 1
Eat a healthy diet. This means limiting your total fat consumption to 30% or less of total calories, eating lots of fruits and vegetables and not overeating. The US Department of Agriculture, the group that developed the food pyramid, allows you to tailor an eating plan based on your age, activity level, and height and weight through their website.
-
Step 2
Exercise regularly. Find an activity that you enjoy and do it at least 5 days per week. Exercising is helpful for weight control, cardiovascular health and bone health. It will also help you to feel better by reducing stress
-
Step 3
Eliminate bad habits. If you smoke cigarettes, try to quit. If you drink alcohol, limit yourself to 2 drinks per day if you are a man and 1 drink per day if you are a woman. Identify other bad habits in your life and develop a plan for eliminating them.
-
Step 4
Relax and enjoy life. Life in the 21st century is very stressful and stress has been linked to a number of illnesses because it weakens our immune systems. If relaxing doesn't come easy to you, try an activity like yoga, tai chi or meditation.
Say NO To Bad Habits!!
Cut out harmful habits: Your body is not made for consuming large amounts of alcohol or drugs. Smoking is a common vice for people; however, it is taking years off your life and damaging your body with every puff. Other drugs are obviously much more serious and should be completely taken out if you care about your body at all.
Did you know?
70% of the body is made up of water. We should drink between 8-10 cups of water a day. More when we exercise or in hot weather.
OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES
Turn off the TV or the computer and have a walk. Park your car at a greater distance and walk for a few blocks. Don’t wait for the elevator and climb the stairs. Start making aerobic exercises everyday. These exercises don’t need to be very hard at the beginning, so you have to start making exercises at a medium level.
Even a few minutes of practicing sport per day are very important for your health.
RELAX: The specialists recommend many methods of facing the stress and start relaxing. It is indicated to have a hobby, spend your time with your friends and socialize more. All these tips will reduce the level of stress and the risk of having heart diseases or even heart attack.
