Always a Conflict

As I opened the post box, I noticed there were a lot of letters in it but one paper caught my eye. It wasn’t wrapped in an envelope but instead, it was in A4 size paper folded and crumpled. I took it out and read the contents.

“You can’t do this. You can’t quit being a poacher and expect to convince the world to save the animals. They were the source of OUR money. We killed them, sold them and we get rich, that’s our job. That’s yours too. Join us or you will face the consequences.

Jamal"

My hand shook as I finished reading the letter. They are blackmailing me. Haven’t they had enough?
Angrily, I crumpled and tore the letter. I can’t let him stop me from saving these animals. I grunted and went back into the house.

“Here you go, Madam,” I said as I handed an old lady a white cat that she payed for RM1. She thanked me and went out.
I was in the Home Sweet Home making sure the animals there were well fed and taken care of. A lot of kids who live nearby volunteered to help out. Siti, a girl aged eleven was sweeping the floor.
“Siti, can you take care of this place while I’m out?” I asked her.
She just nodded and smile. I walked out of the Home Sweet Home. I reached my house and few minutes later, my wife was counting the money to donate to WWF.
“How is Home Sweet Home?” she asked.
I smiled’ “The animals seem to be in good condition and seems like many people want to buy a pet.”
“Encik Azman! Encik Azman!” I heard a voice call out from outside.
From the urgently of the voice, I hurriedly rushed outside, my wife following behind me. Siti was standing there, panting as she kept on calling my name.
“Bad news, sir,” she started to panic, “Home Sweet Home, it’s.. it’s..”
“What? What is going wrong with Home Sweet Home?” I demanded.
“It’s on fire!” at this point, she started to cry, “I’m so sorry.”
With that, I ran at top speed toward Home Sweet Home. The building was on fire! Suraiya was too shocked that she fainted at the sight. I must had fainted.
