WATER RESOURCES

Water is very important renewable resource.Only 3% oftotal water can be consumed as they are fresh Water. The main water source are ponds, wells, river, sea, ocean.

But water is very scarce. There are many reasons for it.
It is due to over population
lack of rain fall.
Growth of industry.
Lack of properstorage.
Depletion of ground water,
Over irrigation

Way to conserve
1-Roof top rainwaterharvesting.
2-Build dams
3-Canals
4-Drip irrigation

Thus by the above mentioned ways we can surely conserve our natural resources.

RESUSE OF WATER

““Reuse means the deliberate application of reclaimed water for a beneficial pur-pose”
Why Reuse Water?
Population growth: - As the population continues to grow at rapid pace, the de-mand for fresh, clean water also increases - a fact which will lead to more wide-spread, severe, and more prolonged, water shortages.
Industrialization:-Apart from population growth the Industrial water consump-tion in the country at present stands at about 40 billion cubic metre or 8 per cent of the total freshwater available and is estimated to double in the next two decades, due to globalization and increasing economic activity.
Rain shadow region:- With most parts of Tamil Nadu coming under the rain-shadow region, over exploitation and drought conditions had reduced the per cap-ita availability of fresh water in the State to 840 cubic metre, far below the national average of 1,200 cubic metre and below the 1,000 cubic metre level fixed as the in-ternational measure to denote ‘water scarcity’.
Coast:- Near the coast (such as kalpakkam, Chennai, etc), ground water supplies are limited, shallow, and vulnerable to overdraft, contamination, and salt water intrusion.

Reuse can help the state or country meet the water supply and wastewater man-agement needs of its growing population and industries.
Reuse helps to conserve potable water supplies since reclaimed water is used in place of potable water for certain purposes. In addition, many reuse activities can help recharge ground water supplies.
So municipalities and industries should incorporate water reuse in their new plant design wherever possible, as implementing recycling in the initial stage of plant operation would be more economical than retrofitting for reuse at a later date.
Uses:-
1. Industrial uses including plant wash down, processing water, and cooling water purposes.
2. Irrigation of parks, residential properties, highway medians, and other land-scaped areas.
