Dance As An Art Form

These are pictures of our latest Dance competition that our team participated again. We were awarded 'Highly Commended'! We own these photos and thus do not need to cite any sources.   Dance really makes people happy. It's an art form that people really appreciate... and you can lose weight while doing it too!

Dance

That's right... dance is a type of art. It is both a sport and an art form that involves moving one's body to a rhythm. It involves flexibility, movement and of course, a good awareness of artistic appreciation and composition so as to judge the quality of one's dancing.

Dance is art, because it has much of the same properties as any other art form... you use it to express your emotions, feelings, and ideas, you use it to tell stories, you use it to bring beauty into the world.

Our team has four members that are accomplished dancers, having studied ballet, hip-hop and jazz for many years. Our teammates also have experience in joining the annual dance competition at our school (winning Highly Commended three times in a row) and thus have a lot of experience in how dance as an art form is really beautiful and amazing.

Here are some of our opinions on dance as art:

Clarissa: I really think dance is one of the greatest forms of art because it's always moving, always changing. It doesn't remain constant like sculptures or art on paper. That's why it's so inspiring.

Ophelia: Dance is really cool. People can do gymnastics and lots of really awesome things when they dance. Of course, visual arts is really nice too, but I really love watching a good dancer. It's so magical and hypnotic.

Jane: Actually, I'm not really a dancer myself. But I do it sometimes for fun. And it's really a nice way to express myself on a stage and show people what I can do. I think art on paper is easier to do though! There's no danger of pulling a muscle or breaking a leg!

Reasons why I love Art.

  • Wide variety

It amazes me how art can be expressed in many differnt styles such as, abstract, surrealism, impressionism, etc. But no matter what style you prefer, all thse styles have the same meaning and purpose: to reveal the secret within the world of art.

  • My favourite art movement

Impressionism would have to be my favourite art movement as it illustrates the everyday, typical life which I can relate to.

  • Making the world a beautiful place

Art has opened up my eyes to my surroundings. Despite the never-ending obstacles that life has to offer, there are still so many beautiful things that I should be thankful for.

  • Relaxation and enlightenment.

Art is relaxing for both looking at and doing. Either way, my feelings and imaginations are set free. Also, doing/looking at art makes me feel hopeful and enlightened.

  • Self-identity

Art has given me an identity. I have my own style towards art, and people recognize me for my passion for it. In fact, I feel honored to be part of the world of art.
