Obstacles To Music and Art Today
Clarissa's C Major Scale
I have to say: if you don't appreciate art and music as much as you should... START NOW!
Personally, I hope my embarrassment will inspire you to pick up a paintbrush or an instrument as just let out your emotions.
I wish I could have learned that lesson before.

My Personal Experience
I'm Clarissa and I want to talk about how I regret not letting the music into me and accepting it.
Out of all those on the team, I can safely say I'm not the most musical or artistic. I deal with facts, numbers... music and art is just something I appreciate, not something that I would consider a big part of my life.
Actually, I regret my attitude towards art and music. They are important. My parents pushed me to learn the flute in my younger years, which I did. I felt like I had a passion for the instrument, and I enjoyed making music.
Then, something bad happened. I took an examination in flute, Grade 2, and I failed. When I failed, I felt horrible. i had invested so much time already in learning the flute and even that was not good enough.
So, I put aside my flute and carried on.
My flute just lay there, collecting dust bunnies, while I grew older and my life grew more crammed with activities: my social life, a tonne of tests, charity work and stuff... and everytime I felt like I had time to pick up the flute again, I always seemed to busy to.
For the project, my teammates wanted me to play the flute so as to showcase a different instrument. But due to lack of practice, and I have to admit, simply not caring about music, I stood in front of the video camera and blew out a C Major scale.
At that moment, I felt embarrassed. All the other people on my team seemed to have some artistic talent, and I felt so left out. I really regretted my decision to stop learning the flute.
What I want to say is, YOU HAVE TO MAKE TIME FOR MUSIC AND ART. In the long run, you'll probably be much happier, and you'll have a unique talent to show off at parties. Don't make excuses and say you have no time. Even worse, don't just NOT CARE.
Music and art never seemed like a really big priority to me. But through this project, I know how crucial they actually are for the whole world... and even for me.
Does Money Make The World Go Round?

Misunderstandings Hurt The Arts
|
| This is what people think when they see gothic art and music. They think of hellish things like alcohol and drugs. But this kind of art is nothing to be scared about... it's still art to someone! |
Main Obstacles Against Art and Music
-
Misconceptions about artists and musicians
Some may call it stereotyping, but it is still alive and well today. To some, the image of an artist is still of a depressed alcoholic with a paintbrush, and musicians are thought of as drug-addicted, wild kids.
-
Increase in Importance of Money and Work
The world today is not as artistic as it used to be. The most important things are Wall Street, the stock market... but people are forgetting the very things that make them human.
-
Obsolescence of Art and Music For Children
The children are our future. They are the ones who will change the roles of art and music in their daily life. But are art and music getting too 'old' for these children? Would they rather pick up a Gameboy instead?
-
Increase Of Other Problems In The World
Civil wars, the danger of a pandemic, financial crises... these things happen so fast and in such a large quantity that it is difficult for people to consider art and music as important TODAY.
-
Lack Of Time
This is related to point 2. People nowadays are so busy that barely have time for their own families, let alone the pursuit of what they assume to be trivial interests like art and music.
What can we do to increase their roles?
Art and music ARE important, as you have seen from our presentation. They have a long, varied history that has affected us for a long time and in so many ways.
But our group wants to know HOW we can bring the message to a wider audience!
The government should give free lessons to EVERYONE, not just talented people, which is what happens nowadays. More art exhibitions should be held. Also, companies should sponsor singers from all over the world to come!

Music lessons can be paid by schools for talented tudents so they can learn more and take their talent to a new level.

People should promote music everyday by promoting the musicians they like! They can even give out posters!
