Project Overview and Introduction

Art is defined in the skill acquired by experience, study, or observation and the the conscious use of skill and creative imagination especially in the production of aesthetic objects.

But to us, art is something much simpler. It is a from of creativity that moves people, that makes people feel and changes their emotions. Art is subjective, one piece with the ability to make people both look away in disgust and make them cry in happiness.

Music works exactly to the same principle. Perhaps you might listen to the raging guitars and incessant screaming of heavy metal music, and say "This is not music. This is noise.". But perhaps a 'rocker' would sit in a classical music concert, hear Mozart and think of it as nothing but boring noise too!
Whatever sound makes you happy, is music.

So that is the point of our project. To promote art and music as a culture of beauty and subjectivity, as something so infinitely broad and complicated, with so many different branches, yet still amazingly simple.

Art and music are the things that intertwine us. And that is their main role, in a nutshell, to unite us all in one love of art and beauty, to strengthen us in the face of adversity and to help us find some peace in our increasingly hectic lives.

My Opinions On The State Of Arts Today

To see how aware people are on the current situation of art and music in the world, and to gather suggestions on what people can do to improve that situation.
We want to hear the feelings of others on how the world could improve its appreciation of art and music.

  • Art must become one's legacy and wemust pass it on for generations and generations.

  • Art these days is not really done for one's pleasure, it is just done for college applications or to show off. We should appreciate art just for the sake of it.
    May. 04, 2009

  • I think most art today is not actually art. Art, to me, means something that is beautiful, that has MEANING. I for one do not see how square blocks and splotches of color make a "masterpiece". It's disgraceful to real masters like Leonardo or Michelangelo. The same goes for music! WHO can actually LIKE long haired teens "rocking it out" on a guitar while screaming?

  • Music and art is, in my opinion, much better than it was 200 years ago. There are many varieties, and everything is accepted as having it's own type of beauty. However, 200 years ago, only one or two forms-such as classical music or Renaissance Art- was seen as normal. Everything else was frowned upon.
However, today's music industry has many people who may not be very talented. I think we should change that. Also, some bands are bad influences on younger children. This should also be changed as music is something that should be kept pure for everyone to enjoy

  • I disagree with Renee. I think older people, on the other hand, is appreciated more by the older generation. I myself life classical music, and I think the banging of heavy metal is not music at all. There is no meaning! No emotion except anger. Plus, you cant even hear the lyrics. And what you do hear--well, it's mostly swearing

Citations and Information

For the sake of conserving space and increasing the amount of content on each page, the citations for the information and media that we have uploaded here are all listed on the "Citations" page near the end of the project.

The full citations are not on the relevant pages on which the images and such can be seen but can be found on the "Citations" page.

However, for our Powerpoint presentations and Microsoft Word documents, we have included a separate citations page and/or short bibliography that can be seen once the file is downloaded.

All the media and information that we have used are from the public domain and/or used under free licensing from the original owners.

Some content in this project has also been originally created by our team mates, and they have also been acknowledged in the 'Citations' area.

Every effort has been made to trace the original creators of all the media in this project, and our group proudly stands behind our work as free of copyright infringement.
