WORKED FOR GENDER EQUALITY
WOMEN'S EQUALITY
It is quite clear that for centuries the position of women in Indian Societies had been suppressed and the women suffered oppression.
It was only in the late 19th century that steps for emancipation of women commenced. In conformity with Rig Veda, women’s entry-consequent upon her marriage-into her husband’s home was considered an auspicious occasion bringing blessing and prosperity to the entire family of her husbands.
Bapu (gandhiji) incorporated the role of women in all the constructive programs he launched in the various social, economic and educational institutions he founded.
This has made tremendous contribution to the uplift of status of women’s status in society.
