- 1.Batu Caves is a limestone hill, located in Gombak district.
- 2.The cave is one of the most popular Hindu shrines outside India, dedicated to Lord Murugan.
- 3.It is the location for Hindu festival of Thaipusam in Malaysia which attracts over 1.5 million peoples every year, making it one of the largest annual gatherings anywhere in the world.
- 4.The limestone forming Batu Caves is said to be around 400 million years old.
- 5.Batu Caves was promoted as a place for pray by K.Thamboosamy Pillai, an Indian trader.
- 6.Since 1892, the Thaipusam festival in the Tamil month of Thai(which falls in late January/early February) has been celebrated here.
- 7.Wooden steps up to the Temple Cave were built in 1920 and now it had been replaced by 272 concrete steps.
