Designing the Windmill Blades

The purpose of the blade design is to trap the wind's energy inside, so there is 4 main things that we need to have perfect on our windmill. The four main ideas involve the blades in how the: Pitch, shape, length, and quantity are all precise. First, is the pitch, the pitch is how you have the windmill blades angled so the wind can capture it perfectly. Our windmill has 3 blades that are all angled the same direction. The second thing on the list is the shape. Right now are windmill blades are rectangles rounded at one end and pitched at a left angled direction. Thirdly, there is the lentgh, the length is how long the blade will be on our windmills. We learned that 8 inch blades work the best, so that is what we will use. We tried our Windmill out with 8 blades and it worked perfectly. Lastly, we have the quantity of the blades. Our team has 3 blades because it works better than the rest. We tried 2 and it worked well, but once we tried 3 it seemed to spin faster and more accurate. Our team is doing wonderful and can't wait to finish!

My Pictures

After all the testing and the conclusion we have changed our minds one last time. We have come to the conclusion that we will have our Windmill have 3 blades made of the Balsa Wood.

My Pictures

This was the first she step to building the Windmill. We had to add a base and put a pole in the opening where there was a hole. It was pretty easy. All we had to do was sand the pole so it could fit.   After we built the Windmill base we had to build the Generator and the place the gears. We had to tighten screws and loosen bolts. It was hard work for our builder Kai.

My Pictures

We tried diferent types of blades, but we chose the corrugated blade because it seemed to work the best. We are going to use two blades too, becasue they went very faster and were the most accurate.   Here are some Balsa Wood blades, which we tried on our windmill. We noticed that they were heavier and didn't go as fast as the other lighter blades. We are going to stay with the two Corrugated blad
