Electric Cars
Present and Future usage of Electric cars
The best electric cars of today and most of those of tomorow will use the NiMH batteries. Comparable to other car batteries, these batteries are longer lasting and hold better charges. Until researchers can stop a lithium-ion battery from exploding in a crash, the NiMH battery is the best we can use in an electric vehicle.
History of the electric car
The very first electric car was made around 1835 (the exact date is unknown). Its inventor was Sibrandus Stratingh of Groningen.
In 1897, the first commercial application was established as a fleet taxis of New York City built by the Electric Carriage and Wagon Company of Philadelphia. These cars were only capable of speeds up to 20mph.
Today there are fewer electric cars out on the road than back then, but they are starting to make a comback. Many of the large car companies such as Ford Gm and Chrystler are making electric vehicles or hybrids. Some of the electric cars that are planned to come out in the next year or two have a range of almost 220 miles, and can go from 0-60mph in about 4 seconds.
