The Most Practical Foreign Language: French

French is "the most practical foreign language" according to Richard Shryock of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. French and English are the only two global languages spoke on 5 continents. Canada, the United States largest trading partner speaks french. France is the most popular tourist destination in the world, attracting the most visitors each year. On top of all the language, the french culture significantly influences our own.

All foreign languages are important and can be very useful, so in order to make sure that all students can pursue one that will intrest them, any courses not available at school will be available online or through self-study at the media center.

Latin: The Basis of Languages

More than 70% of the English language is derived from Latin roots. Students who study latin as a second language, will then be able to learn other foreign languages easier.

Learning Latin is valuable to a student's english skills as well because so much of our language is dervived from Latin. Also, learning the finer points of grammar in another language often make english grammar clearer. For these reasons, students persuing foreign languages will begin learning Latin for at least a year before then choosing if they would like to continue on with Latin or switch to another foreign language.
