Music in world causes
Make Music the Tool for Unifying
This year, 2009, has been 40 years since the famous rock festival, Woodstock, occurred in 1969 in New York by three days of concert. It was expected to receive 150.000 spectators and half a million assisted although it was a rainy weekend. All were hippies joined against the same idea, the Vietnam War and promoting love and peace as life style. This festival is widely regarded as one of the most important in music history and also reflects the spirit of a generation, the 60’s.
Another important fact happened in 1984 when Bob Geldof, Irish singer, actor and political activist organized the foundation, Band Aid Trust. Its purpose was raising funds for poverty in countries of Africa mainly Ethiopia by releasing the record “Do They Know It’s Christmas”? This song was the origin for the organization of two concerts named Live Aid, also known as “The day the music changed de world”. They took place in United States and England. The mission of Geldof did not finish here; in 2005 he made the official announcement of the Live 8 concerts, the start of a long way to justice. This project was created for raising awareness about issues that burden Africa and AIDS. It consists in organizing concerts in the countries of the G8: U.S.A, Canada, England, Japan, France, Russia, Italy, and Germany.
Make Music the Tool for Unifying
Chile does not remain back in this way of unifying people. The past December, 2008, shows how Chile also makes use of music by the free concert Rock for Life. Here lots of young people showed their union in favor of life. It took place in the front of Bellas Artes museum, Santiago, Chile. The purpose of it was promoting the life and the rights of the ones who will born.
