Technology and its integration

Technology

Technology comes from the Greek “technologia”; “techno” stands for the meaning of skill or art and "logia" means logy or science (Merriam-Webster Dictionary, 2009). So, we can infer that technology is the art of knowledge used to create, invent and provide humanity with objects and instrument to simplify tasks and help them live better. Under this meaning, technology becomes a helpful tool in every aspect of our life. And, in the future, it will have an even bigger impact on it, for example in education.

Objectives of Technology in Lessons

Now, the days where computers were used only for practical things like writing or saving documents are over. The only thing that we can be sure of is that computers and other technological devices will play an important role in the education of students in the future. Technology will facilitate the student to learn through different points of view (Cromwell, 1998).

Even though technology will help learning, it will not replace teachers or schools. The main purpose for the application of technology in classrooms will be as a support to achieve an active participation from students in schools activities, conviction and commitment to learning, response and cooperation from the pupils, and finally it will provide real life situations to intensify knowledge.

Reasons are Plenty

Besides having a huge importance in the children’s learning, there are also very powerful reasons of why it will be important to incorporate technology in school lessons in the future.

One of the reasons people should integrate technology is to help explore more deeply and understand more clearly some topics in different subjects. For example, in science, technology is fundamental to conduct experimental activities where you have to observe and measure different phenomena. And how do you do this; with technological devices like microscopes and software programs among others.

Another significant reason is that by using technology in school, children will have more tools to comprehend the topics they are learning in class and will be challenged to improve their intellectually capabilities. This will be done by working with diverse, modern and more appealing material. Kids will be encouraged to investigate about their curiosities; therefore, they will deepen their knowledge.

If schools apply technology in their classes, this would also be useful for the teachers. By using computers and online information, teachers will be able to advise students in different ways like via email. They would also be able to assess them with different methods besides tests, and they would “make teaching and learning more meaningful and fun” (Edutopia, 2008).

Conclusion

Finally, we must embrace the technological application in future learning because, when it is well used, it will help students develop and acquire different capacities they will need in their lives. We have not yet recognized the potential benefits technology offers us; but in the future, technology will have a great impact by enhancing education and other activities.
