Introduction
Education and Technology
Have you ever wondered when technology was actually invented and applied to our lives? Since the origins of men, when they lived in caves and animal tents, they have created different objects to help themselves survive. At the beginning they were simple, coarse and of basic natural materials; however, as time passed and men evolved, these materials changed and so did the quality of the tools. That was the invention of technology, and it has advanced into unimaginable forms. So, even if we had not noticed, technology has always been present as an instrument to help us throughout our lives. It has always been a device to help us live better and assist us in our obligations, especially in our learning and education.
According to the Britannic Encyclopaedia, education is "the act or process of imparting or acquiring general knowledge, developing the powers of reasoning and judgment, and generally of preparing oneself or others intellectually for mature life" (Dictionary, 2009). Throughout our whole life we have been educated by others and we have learned something new everyday. But we must all agree that the majority of our knowledge was achieved in our school days. The word school comes from the Greek "scholē", that means leisure (Wikipedia, 2009).
Schools have been exposed to constant change since its origin in the ancient Greece, India and China. For example at the beginning, primary education level did not begin until 425 A.D. In the Middle Ages, schools were only for men and their main purpose was to teach Latin. Like you see, schools are always innovating and now they are going to face a bigger change. They are confronting the Technological Era and they are going to be deeply involved in society modifications due to the quick technological development.
