A treasure from Transylvania
An interactive map
Because we want you to have fun visiting our city, we have conceived a map that guides you to the most important buildings and monuments from our historical centre in a slightly more interactive way.
What you have to keep in mind is that you just have to follow the red dots on your map. The names of the monuments will be provided by a little quiz you have to fill in. Enjoy!
Point 1
To get to the first point (1.), you have to find out where the Huet Square is located. Here you will find one of the most important churches from Sibiu in the courtyard of a high school you have already heard about. Just look closely through this courtyard: you will find the statue of a German Bishop who lived in the 18th century, whose name rhymes with “Deutsch”. The first letter from his name will help you find point 3, so remember it.
Points 2 and 3
help you find point 3, so remember it.
To get to the second point (2.) you have to walk straight ahead from the courtyard. This is a simple way to check out the Great Square and discover another church, with a different architectural style. Just look in front of you: can you already see a street in front of you? That is where you need to go next.
At the end of the street, there is a thick tower where symphonic concerts are held every Thursday. Using the letter you remembered, you can find this sight’s name. Perhaps you are lucky enough to come just in time for a concert and then you get to experience the pleasant music surrounding.
Points 4,5 and 6
At the end of the street, there is a thick tower where symphonic concerts are held every Thursday. Using the letter you remembered, you can find this sight’s name. Perhaps you are lucky enough to come just in time for a concert and then you get to experience the pleasant music surrounding.
If you walk down that street, you will see the towers and the defense wall. At the end of the street lies one of the most impressive museum from Sibiu (point 4), where you can see over 1.000.000 exhibits from different collections (of butterflies, shark teeth, etc.).
You probably want to take a breath of fresh air after the visit through the museum. Point 5 will be a relaxing alternative to the busy life from Sibiu, so just walk straight ahead to find it. You can even play a game of chess or watch the fountain the spring and summertime.
Last but not least, you have to go back to the Great Square in order to see a masterpiece of baroque architecture which houses the exhibition of the former owner of this house (point 6). His name has relevance when reffering to the history of Sibiu, because he was a baron of Transylvania between 1877-1887.
Thus, you have returned to the place we left you off, hopefully with more knowledge about the touristic sights from our city.
