Plastic In Our Daily Life, and In Indonesia

Depending on plastic bag is a dangerous phenomenon in our lives. This phenomenon has happen in our beloved country, Indonesia, for years. For example, if we want to buy 100 ounces of apples, we have to put it inside plastic bag, instead of paper bag. Then we pay for it, since we can’t carry the apples without any bag, the department store clerk will give us another big plastic bag, for us to carry the apples. Indonesian people think that using plastic bag for carry goods is polite and not embarrassing. For another example, if we want to eat in canteen, I think it will be very useful and wise if we don’t use Styrofoam for our food. We still can eat in canteen with plate, instead of Styrofoam. Many people think that plates from the food seller id not clean enough, since they can’t trust the water used for wash those dishes. But for us, we believe them because our immune body can kill germs and bacteria from plates and bowls, not the dangerous chemical compounds from Styrofoam and plastics which can cause cancer, kidney and liver damage, and many dangerous illnesses.
Plastic bags have many negative effects than the positive one. These are some problems caused by plastic bags and plastic waste.

1. Environment
Many people buy snacks and drinks with plastic, and they’re too lazy to find a trash bin. So, those plastics ended in the streets, clogging the water sewer, and the water which suppose to flow in that water sewer can’t flow to the right place. It creates a very disgusting looks and bad smells on the water sewer, and people really disguised by only looking at it, but won’t to change the condition.

2. Cleanliness
Cleanliness is also connected in environment. As we described above, plastic garbage is really disturbing the cleanliness of our country. Not only in water sewer, had this phenomenon also disturbed our rivers, and coasts, for example, one of our famous rivers in our city, located in Bandung, and named Cikapundung. In 1960, this river still flows with clear water and clean environment near the river. But since our citizens really depended on plastic, and like we said, they were too lazy to throw it in the trash bin, they just throw it to the river. They think, one or two plastics won’t hurt, since the river is so big and it will end in the sea. So, it wouldn’t be a problem, especially for them. But they don’t know, that the river will counter rocks, stones, pebbles, that can make the plastics stuck. And the worst part is, those plastics are not empty, so the foods or drinks contaminate the river, make

3. Health
There are many kinds of plastic that may not be used more than one time. It could be dangerous for our health. Dangerous chemical compounds can contaminate the water or food if we use the plastic for more than once. This can trigger cancer inside our body (carcinogenic).
