New girl in town
It's hard to be the new one in town, and Jane knows it very well. At first, she didn't have any friends, because the others just didn't realize that she was there. No one asked her how things are going or if she wants to go out with them, no one spoke to her.
She soon found out that the most popular girl was called Nicole. Everyone greeted her. Every evening, someone invited her to parties or asked her to go shopping. She was always surrounded by people who talked to her, told her jokes and so on. Jane envied Nicole very much, because she thought that Nicole had lots of friends, that she had so much fun and that because of her, Jane couldn't distinguish herself. She almost wanted Nicole to dissapear, so she could get those greets and invitations to parties.
Days passed. They turned to weeks, and then to months. Jane had now some friends with which she laughed and felt good. She went to parties. Most of the people greeted her and she was very happy. Then, she realized that her envy for Nicole was just a waste of time and happiness, because Nicole had no real friends. It was just a fake. Those empty smiles amd greets might have looked great, but in fact she was very lonely and sad. Therefore, Nicole should have envied her, because Jane had real friends who helped her when she failed and made her feel good.
Now that she saw that, Jane felt a litle sad, but she also realized that her envy for Nicole made her try harder and become better than she was before. All in all, the envy dissapeared and Jane was happy again.
Bertrand Russell quotes (English Logician and Philosopher 1872-1970)
“Envy consists in seeing things never in themselves, but only in their relations. If you desire glory, you may envy Napoleon, but Napoleon envied Caesar, Caesar envied Alexander, and Alexander, I daresay, envied Hercules, who never existed.”
Harold Coffin quotes
“Envy is the art of counting the other fellow's blessings instead of your own.”
Frank Tyger quotes
“You can't be envious and happy at the same time”
German Proverb quotes
“Envy eats nothing but its own heart”
The envy in YOU
Come on come on...don't be shy...we all envied someone at a point in our lives for something they did or had, so share these experiences with us...
We can't wait tot hear your stories...:)
I now remember...I was like 6 or 7 and I had this mania with barbie dolls. I adored them! They were like the world to me...but the thing is that I couldn't get one everytime a new model appeared. And once there was this super rock star that had a guitar and a microfone and I just fell in love with it when I saw it in the store...but my mother said I couldn't have it because it was exagerately expensive... I said "Okay" to myself and walked away... But then the other day I saw my best friend with that doll and I just couldn't help it! I started crying because I was envious on her... Now when I give a thought to those days I realise that that doll was quite not a big deal! :))
