Education in Indonesia

In indonesia, educational oversight is the responsibility of the Minister of National Education which is right now handled by Professor Bambang Sudibyo. But previously, the educational oversight was the responsibility of the Ministry of Education and Culture of Indonesia. In 2006, the national education budget was US $4.18 billion where the comparison between men and women is 94.0% and 86.8%.
The grades of schools in Indonesia:
a. Kindergarten
This is not included into the primary education in Indonesia but some of Indonesians usually register their children for some reasons.
b. Elementary School
Indonesian usually called it as "Sekolah Dasar (SD)". This is the first primary grade. Indonesian should join the scholl for six years to pass this grade. Students usually get into this grade when they are 6 or 7 years old.
c. Middle School
After passing the elementary grade, we continue to middle school or "Sekolah Menengah Pertama (SMP)". We should pass this in 3 years or 2 years if you join the accelerated class.
d. High School
This is the last grade where you will wear the uniforms. This grade is called as "Sekolah Menengah Atas (SMA)." We pass this in 2 or 3 years just like in middle school.
e. Tertiary school
After graduated from high school, we can continue to the university and we don't need to wear uniforms.
So, the primary education in Indonesia is for 9 years, counted from elementary grade until middle grade.
