List of salt lakes in China

  • Tibetan Salt Lakes

    Through the study, I know that Tibet is one of the areas in China with intensive distribution of salt lakes, and is also the plateau salt lake area with the world's highest elevation, the scope of the largest number and the perfect types. The Tibetan plateau have nearly 234 salt lakes. The largest one is Anglarengcu, with an area of more than 560 sq km; the highest elevation lake is Qingche Lake, more than 5100m above sea level, is a major salt lake. Major salt lakes in Tibet are Maerguochaka halite lake, Xiaochaka mirabilite lake , Zabuye, Bangecuo and Zacangyuka etc.

  • Qinghai Salt Lakes

    Qinghai salt lakes are our primary object of study, I learned a lot of new knowledge, let me talk about it to you. Qinghai Plateau is one of the main salt form areas, and the world famous salt lake area. Qinghai salt lakes are characterized by salt deposition area much larger than the lake area. There are 71 salt lakes, covering an area of 18986.38km2. Among them, Qaidam Basin have 43 salt lakes, an area of 16509km2, as the main salt lake distribution area ; Kekexili Plateau has 28 salt lakes, with an total area of 2476km2, as the secondary. Qaidam Basin salt deposition reserves is highest in the world. Take Qarhan Lake for example, the reserve of halite alone can sustain 2000 years for human edible purpose. The well-known Salt Bridge is located here.

  • Xingjiang Salt Lakes

    Xinjiang is China's largest arid and semi-arid salt lake distribution area, including dry salt lakes and brine lakes amounting to be a total of 112 salt lakes. The majority here is in the evolution stage of dry salt lakes. Lake Aiding is the lowest salt lake in mainland China, at 154 meters below sea level, which is very unique and interesting.

  • Inner Mongolia Salt Lakes

    Inner Mongolia is the China's largest salt lake distribution area with a total of 375 salt lakes, which are relatively small in area. There is no large salt lake.
