Essential Questions
We expect this project will introduce people to new ways of helping the environment. When people think of environmentalism people think of solar panels and wind turbines. People are not exposed to all the ways people are trying to help our environment. This project will help the world because it looks at other ways of helping to cut back on pollution while showing that environmentalism and industry can go hand in hand.(Demonstrated by alternate fuel sources for car and sustainable development in the third world) For this project the resources we are using is the internet. For a twentieth and twenty first century problem it is fitting that we will use a contemporary invention to aid in our research.
The Enviroment
The environmental damage is one of the most pressing issues facing humanity to date. Starting with the steam engine humans have been addicted to un-renewable sources of energy. In the nineteenth centaury coal was what powered the world. The invention of the internal combustion engine led to the world developing a thirst for crude oil. According to the Energy Information agency 48.4% of the electricity produced in the United States of America comes from coal. This releases tons of green houses gasses into the atmosphere. In comparison only 27.7% of energy comes from cleaner or renewable sources (Shnapp, Robert). Are way of life is completely unsustainable and without new and innovative solutions are world is at risk to a whole multitude of problems caused by climate change

Solutions
Scientists are working feverishly in order to remedy our problems. In our project we are going to focus primarily on four solutions to major world problems relating to pollution. Food production, the use of gas powered automobiles, sustainable development in the third world and water conservation. In each of these topics we are going to explore how people are trying to create sustainable alternatives and how they will impact business in the future.
