Green Hope from my Heart
-Travel Notes on the Salt Lake City of China
We were taken by our teacher to pay a visit to the Charhan Salt Lake of Golmud City last Friday. We got on the train in the evening and my classmates and I kept talking and laughing happily and couldn’t restrain our heartfelt excitement during our trip. Through the clean train windows, we noticed a kind of plant called the Camel’s Grass by the local people growing along the railway in the vast Gobi and I was deeply touched and inspired by its bullheaded spirit of growing in such a harsh environment. After some twelve-hour journey, the train pulled into the Railway Station of Golmud City, the 2nd largest city in Qinghai Province and we got on our great tour to the Charhan Salt Lake after a short break in the downtown.
It took us only an hour to reach the southern bank of the Salt Lake from Golmud City. Standing there and looking northward, we saw a boundless white world full of salt. What a spectacular view it is! The jacinth salt transporting pipes of section-shaped on the Salt Lake draw up a beautiful pitch arc which looks like a colorful waving chain. Then we were on board a tourboat to head for the salt dredger in the centre of the Salt Lake to be followed by layers of white waves at the stern. It looked like an emerald with the intertexture of the green salt water and white waves. Ten minutes later, we caught sight of the salt dredger, a jumbo in green color. After our boarding, we were told by a technician that it had been imported from the United States with the cost of around RMB 100 million yuan and it was featured with computer-controlled, microwave navigation, fluid power drive, supermatic, semi-free-floating and other performances which was making a great contribution to the potash fertilizer production of Qinghai Salt Lake Company.
I was full of pride at seeing the green salt dredger because this is my hometown. When I looked again at the Salt Lake, everything looked green, the green dredger, the green saline with the increasing green hope. So I strongly believe that Charhan, the ancient salt lake city, known as the Salt Lake City of China, will rejuvenate under the modern scientific and technological guidance and make a greater contribution to China and even to the world.
