Dear friends, have you ever been to the Qinghai-Tibet
Plateau and the well-known Qaidam Basin? Have you ever
seen the vast and green Salt Lake and the multi-colored
and shaped and jady salt crystal? Do you know how the
edible salt is made from the Qarhan Salt Lake in Qinghai,
what other minerals are produced from the Salt Lake and
why the Qarhan Salt Lake is reputed as a white treasure
lake? If your answer is no, let’s take a scientific exploration to a world of salt.

Teaching objectives of this project and expected results:
We may have known something about the Salt Lake from
legends, stories and its history. But some of us may
not have the chance to go in depth into the essence and
the mystery of the Salt Lake culture throughout all
his/her life. However, it is still our earnest expectation
to provide an utmost opportunity to our students for their active study through such interesting activities like
Chinese learning, field study, expert interview and
experiments with the assistance of the “thinkquest”.
These activities are designed to lead them to seek
the truth under the surface, raise up questions frankly,
learn the knowledge actively and learn to communicate with others through an easy, think independently, do planned teamwork, help them acquire positive emotional experience
and develop their spirit of exploration. What’s more, we
hope the children can feel the nature with their heart,
feel the change, the grandness and vastness of the Salt
Lake, thus they are enlightened to love, appreciate
and respect the nature and bear the responsibility of
nature protection.
