Bad things about our Community

Arsonists in our community

In our community we always hear about fires around the country and last year there was a major bush fire near Endeavour primary school.

The fire was in the nature reserve near the golf course. It killed lots of animals like kangaroos, rabbits and snakes because the area was fenced in and there was nowhere to escape. The fire burnt right down to the beach and the houses on the beach front had to evacuate. Two of our Think.Quest members lived near that fire and witnessed what had happened. Luckily nobody got burnt and no houses were affected. Police say that the fire was lit by primary school children.

Burglaries in our community

Now and again in Port Kennedy things will go missing at the cause of burglars. TVs, power tools, Radios and I-pods anything worth any money is in danger of being taken.

A great example of burglary in Port Kennedy is the theft of power tools and Game Consoles. The thieves came from the back fence climbing over into the back yard. The door was left open for their big dog to get out. A perfect target for burglars as it makes it easier to get into the house. The thieves went into the next room and stole a game console and a few games. The mistake they made was they made a lot of noise as they jumped back over the fence and they were caught soon after.

If people lock up all their doors at night, keep valuable things hidden or at least find a safe place to keep your belongings Port Kennedy will be a safer place.

Litter in our community

People in Port Kennedy are not the best with keeping their area clean. In fact people litter just because they are lazy, drunk, trying to look good or they just want to make the place look like a junkyard.

Ponds and parks have countless potato chip packets, broken bottles and sharp pieces of glass and metal. Even when many bins are put in the area to help clean up, we still have people dumping their junk on the grass and lakes.

Many animals and plants are also dying because litter like plastic bags and chip packets are being swallowed by turtles, birds and even household pets swallow left over foam or little pieces of plastic gets swallowed and the animals choke.

The litter in Port Kennedy is getting even worse. To help stop it we need to put our rubbish in the bin and clean up after other dirty people.

Graffiti and Vandalism in our community

Any where you go in public you are sure to find graffiti or vandalism. In Port Kennedy whether you are at the park or the shops you will find some vandalism or graffiti because some people just do not care about our community.

Around three weeks ago our school was broken into, computers were broken and windows were smashed. Every now and then when students come back to school after a weekend there is graffiti on the doors, the ground and on the walls.

Our local skate park is very popular for kids and teenagers. The entire skate ramp is covered in graffiti and so is the play ground. The play ground has missing parts because of people misusing the equipment. In the car park someone set fire to a car and all the ground is black and it looks horrible.

On the 31st of March some people on a motorbike came into our school and sprayed some of the cars in the staff car park with a fire extinguisher. The teachers had to get their cars and go into the other car park to get their cars washed down with a hose.
