Australian Wildlife
Marapana Wildlife Park
Marapana Wildlife Park is 100% Australian native animals. You can pat a Koala and feed Kangaroos, Emus and some other animals.
It is the perfect place for a family outing but not all day, there is not enough to do to fill the whole day however, store some meat in a cool bag and cook it on the barbeque. They provide gas with them and it is free. It's great for a picnic. Whatever the choice, please feel free to sit under an alfresco they have.
Familys love it and I see why. The place is great fun for a half a day out!
Caversham Wildlife Park and Whiteman Park
Caversham Wildlife Park is a very large animal sanctuary. It is situated inside Whitman Park. There are birds, Wombats, Tasmanian Devils, Koala's, Kangaroos, Dingoes and many other very interesting wildlife animals there.
Before you go into the large "park" for the kangaroos there is a giant bucket of food to feed them with. You can feed them all, from little ones to big ones.
During some hours of the day there is a feeding show at the Tasmanian Devils enclosure and you should see those little things run. They are extremely fast and have teeth as sharp as razors. Also to survive in the wild, when holding their live prey they can lock their jaw shut so it's prey cannot move. They are amazing.
Every hour on the hour on some day there is a hut where you can have a cuddle with a very fat and lazy wombat. They are heavy and if a child wants to cuddle one they need either an adult near them or to have it next to them. They also tell you what their name is and what sort of characteristis they have so you know what you are holding besides it is a wombat.
There is a farm area where you can pet the sheep, see rabbits, pigs etc.
There is also an area where you can get a camel ride!
The rest of Whitman Park is also very interesting. There is a Motor Museum, a play area and paddling pool, a shopping village for gifts and a variety of other displays which change from time to time, a common one is the Birds of Prey.
Whitman Park is a good day out for everyone.
