Why...?
Long ago,this ceremony is used to be a great mision from the kings of Panjalu, it's one of ways to spread moslem religion for people in panjalu. Until now, the ceremony still held as a tradition, as an inheritance culture, which purposed to take care of the artifacts, so it could be long lasting, with their own ways as a tradition.

There's nothing special in washing swords or something like that, but one thing special is the advice.
"Wash the artifacts with holy waters from 9 primary springs!"
Think about it, if they need holy water from at least 9 springs, that means they have to protect at least 9 wide forest areal. And the water must be "holy" which means it musn't be defiled with anything, especially humans, and no one can enter the forests.

Panjalu's ancestors successfully hypnotize panjalu's villagers to protect the forest, without saying "Protect the forests!"
No, but what they say is "Wash the sword with water".
This in-direct advice that makes them believe, what're they protecting isn't the forest, but something more than that, and made them protect the forests at all cost.
"If panjalu's ancestors can do it, then why not us?"
