The Bright Side Of Our World

We as Planet Keepers were suppose to talk about protecting our planet and how people are destroying it but wait! Why not stop and think there are to sides a dark side and a bright side with hope that’s what we found in this place called Collores. Here we met the owner os a land and in thisland he has a famous landscape it’s called “El Salto de Collores” this is a beautiful water fall. While been there we talked to the owner and we asked him about how his land was back then when he bought it and he explained that is was all messy and there was lots of junk, but he was so interested that he started to clean and take care of that land. Then he we ask if people ever let garbage or stuff around and he said no because he makes sure that that dosen’t happen.

It’s intresting how this man cares so much about his land and how he takes great care of it. I think that this is great and that he is a great rolemodel for every body in our planet.

Let’s be like Don Lemuel Echevarrias and protect our world from contamination!

I MADE MY CHOICE! HAVE YOU?

Our Beautiful World

In April 13, 2009 we went to el Salto de Collores. El Salto de Collores is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Collores and is located in the backyards of a house. In that house lives Don Lemuel Echevarria since the 90's. When we were speaking with him he told us about the control he has in that place and he also told us about the flora here in Puerto Rico. When we finished speaking with him we went to el Salto de Collores. Once we were there we started to see the beauty of the waterfall from a better side. But the water was so clean and so beautiful that we couldn't resist the temptation of getting in the water, so we got wet. When we were there getting wet we met some people that where there too. Those people where very nice and we told them a little bit about our project and what we where doing in there. When we finished teling then we said good bye and we headed back to Don Lemuel's house.

The beauty of Culebra

Culebra, although an island, is a municipality of Puerto Rico. White sandy beaches make it a place to visit.

Culebra has one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.
I had the fortune of be there once and I would say that it is a beautiful place. It is very relaxing and the most important thing is that it's a very clean place. At least the beach where I was staying (Flamenco) was. I had a lot of fun when I was there. One of the things that I did when I was there was sea diving. Sea diving is one of my favorite sports. But that's not the point.
The point is that Culebra is a beautiful place but everything can change if we keep throwing garbage and put it in danger, the beach could lose the tourist atraction because it's cataloged the third most beautiful beach and one of the cleanest in the world recorded. So let's keep it that way.

A good way to reuse tires!

Here's an idea! If you can't recycle look for a way to reuse items that would otherwise end up in a landfill. So don't just throw it away reuse it! The video shows an example.

Where I live.

Hey, did you know I live in the mountains too? I would say that it is a very peaceful and beautiful place. This place is very peaceful because you never hear cars,or trucks. The only thing that you hear in a place like this are the birds, the wind and the rivers flowing. And it is beautiful because it is real and to live in a place where the only thing that is around you are trees and animals is groovy. That's how it must be. We are not supposed to be around trash or anything like that. So please let's do something about it'.

Field Trip: Nature at it's best!

Today we decided to go to one of our backyard natural waterfall called " El Salto de Collores ". On that land resides a man called Lemuel Echevarria. He bought it in the early 1990's. This residence was actually abandoned for thirty years and when he bought it, it was full of trash and it was completely polluted, including the waterfall. He decided, with all of this trash, to make an alternative plan, to recycle and reuse. With all of the tires, he used as a fence to control erosion and mudslides. I was astonished I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the beautiful backyard, he had a waterfall! The marvalous thing was that this waterfall isn't man-made, it is all natural. He told us that after he cleaned it all up there was also the problem that when people went for a dip they would leave their trash everywhere. Now that problem is very controlled. Actually being there I saw so much vegetation and wildlife without any man-made materials. I guess that this is the outcome of hard work, discipline, time and a lot of love towards our mother Earth because this is really NATURE AT IT'S BEST!!!

Nature at it's best

"El Salto de Collores"a beautiful place in our town, our backyard, where we had another experience to explore our beautiful Puerto Rico and it's resources. We interviewed the owner that has been living thier since the 90's Don Lemuel Echevarría. He has maintained "El salto"(the waterfall) very clean and the area around it. Also he has control to the access of people entering the waterfall so they won't pollute it. We got to observe the plant and animal life that is all very natural and not damaged by human kind. He has been also planting plantain trees to help, and increase the vegetation around his house and the waterfall. We also had the chance to enter into the river that connects to the waterfall that has very clean and natural water.
