1. Folk custom
According to the historical data records, Changbai Mountain is the cradle land of Manchu. Now it is a place where Han nationality and Korean live together. Korean is a hospitable ethnic group that is good at singing and dancing. Korean has strong regional and ethnic characters. Many of its traditional cultures, folk customs and habits have been well preserved up to this date.
[Folk houses]
The characters of the traditional Korean folk houses are tinted with strong rural features. Generally, their houses are covered with straw roof, in which, big Kang (Korean style heatable brick bed) is used as sleeping bed, and the chimneys are made of wood pipes. In most of Korean inhabited region communities, rice is the major crop, naturally, rice straw are right at hand, therefore, they cover the roofs with rice straws, which can shelter house from the rain in summer and keep warm in winters, very economical and practical. The big Korean Kang is really special. Except for a place for placing shoes, the rest part of floor in a room is a big Kang. Whenever you come into the room, just take off your shoes and then you are on the Kang. Korean women always keep Kang very clean.
[Folk customs]
Korean women carry things on the head. This is a skill mastered through a long time labor and work. The articles carried on the head can be motionless while they walk very fast.
Korean folk music, folk songs and dances have the peculiar flavors of their own. Most of them reflect the happy scenes of labor and harvest as well as love between boys and girls. In each traditional Korean festival and celebration scene, Korean people will sing happily and loudly and toast and cheers. That shows their enthusiasm for life and best wishes for the future.
[Food]
The northeast food and ethnic Korean food are definitely representing of the food of Changbai Mountain area. The northeast local taste mainly is pot-stewed dishes and cold dishes in sauce.

2. Myth and legend
The Qing Dynasty of China established in 1644 regarded Changbai Mountain as the cradle land of their ancestors, and respected it as the God of Changbai Mountain. For 200 years, it was closed till the year of 1881 in which the ban was lifted. That leaves us this pristine, ecological sacred land.
Changbai Mountain is also called Buxian Mountain. Buxian means a fairy in Mongolian language. All ethnic groups inhabited and inhabiting in the northeast worship and apotheosize this highest mountain. Many tales about the heavenly maiden born without pregnancy are originated from here. So this mountain is called the holy mountain.

【Climate】
Changbai Mountain has a temperate continental mountain climate, which features at long and cold winter, short and cool summer with changeable weathers, windy spring and foggy fall. The mean annual temperature is between -7℃ to 3℃ and annual precipitation is 700-1400mm. The best season for visiting Changbai Mountain is July, August and September.
Changbai Mountain’s winter, locked in ice and floating snow, is a typical world of ice and snow.
【Traffics】
By air:
Changbaishan(Changbai mountain ) Airport was opened in August 2008. It is the first airport for forest tour in China, 15 kilometers away from West Slope scenic spot, 120 kilometers away from North Scenic Spot and 105 kilometers away from South Scenic Spot. Its air routes cover the lines from Changbai Mountain to Changchun, Beijing, Shenyang, Dalian, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Guangdong, etc. It takes only 40 minutes from Changbai Mountain to Changchun and 1 hour+40 minutes to Beijing.
Train
Baihe Train Station is the closest station to Changbai Mountain scenic spots; there you may find train heading for Changchun and Tonghua.

The roads to Changbai Mountain are well developed, here we needn’t detail them.

Warm and Sweet reminders
D1: there are 3 gates on the North , west and south slopes in Chinese territory. Normally, we enter into Changbai Mountain from the North Slope gate. (The reason is that there are more scenic spots on the north slope gate which is developed earlier than others and equipped with complete facilities.)
D2: June, July, August and September are the busy seasons for Changbai Mountain. In such period, there are more visitors in the Mountain. The fall of Changbai Mountain is the most beautiful season. At a higher place you may have a good view of the charming mountain tundra attractions. August is the golden season for enjoying amazing flowers and birds as well as Tianchi (the Pool of Heaven).
D3: In winter, peaks, lake water, forest and grasslands of Changbai Mountain are all covered under snow, which is soft, loose and pure white. Some places are covered by the snow as thick as 1-2 meters, the thickest part even 3-4 meters deep, there is less wind and sand in this place, free of any pollution.
D4: If you travel in Changbai Mountain in winter, make sure you bring down coat, hat, scarf, gloves, warm-keeper thick shoes and sunglasses, etc.
D5: However, please keep your distance when observing wild animal populations, please do not disturb their habitat.
